Dr. Shovan Kumar Rath have dreamed about building a “Pain-Free Odisha” a visionary initiative aimed for addressing chronic pain , Improving Quality of life & to provide pain management services across the state of Odisha, India. Here’s a conceptual framework for such an initiative:
The Vision:
To create a pain-free Odisha by educating, awakening and providing Pain Management Service, where every individual has access to comprehensive and compassionate pain management services, enabling them to live fulfilling and productive lives.
The Pain Free Odisha Goal:
- Accessibility: Ensure equitable access to pain management services across urban and rural areas of Odisha, including underserved regions.
- Awareness and Education: Increase awareness about chronic pain conditions, their management, and available treatment options among healthcare professionals, patients, and the general public.
- Quality of Care: Enhance the quality of pain management services through standardized protocols, evidence-based practices, and continuous training for healthcare providers.
- Multidisciplinary Approach: Promote a multidisciplinary approach to pain management, involving collaboration between medical specialists, psychologists, physiotherapists, and other allied healthcare professionals.
- Research and Innovation: Foster research and innovation in pain management, including the development of new treatments, technologies, and interventions tailored to the needs of Odisha’s population.
- Community Engagement: Engage with community leaders, patient advocacy groups, and local organizations to address cultural, social, and economic factors influencing pain management and healthcare-seeking behaviors.
Strategies and Implementation of Pain Free Odisha:
- Establishment of Pain Clinics: Set up specialized pain clinics equipped with state-of-the-art facilities and staffed by experienced pain management specialists.
- Training and Capacity Building: Provide training programs and workshops for healthcare professionals to enhance their knowledge and skills in pain assessment, diagnosis, and treatment. Pain Free Odisha, Already started it’s Training Wing which is called ProPainTA since last April 2024 and have successfully completed two batches of training of doctors on Pain Management services.
- Public Awareness Campaigns: Launch public awareness campaigns through various media channels, including television, radio, print, and social media, to educate the public about chronic pain and available resources.
- Telemedicine Services: Implement telemedicine services to reach remote and inaccessible areas, allowing patients to consult with pain specialists remotely and receive timely advice and treatment.
- Collaboration with Academic Institutions: Partner with medical colleges, universities, and research institutions to conduct studies, clinical trials, and research projects focused on pain management. In this phase, pain free Odisha already collaborated with many leading educational institutions, corporate houses and other such organisations and conducting seminars on Pain Management Services on regular interval.
- Policy Advocacy: Advocate for policies and regulations that support improved access to pain management services, including the integration of pain management into primary healthcare systems.
Monitoring and Evaluation:
