Pain Awareness Campaigns play an important role in educating people about common pain conditions, prevention, and available treatment options. Understanding pain at an early stage can encourage people to seek appropriate medical advice and take better care of their health.
Pain Awareness Campaign at ICAR-CIWA
We were privileged to conduct a Pain Awareness Campaign for the officers and staff of ICAR–Central Institute for Women in Agriculture (ICAR-CIWA), Bhubaneswar, on 6th August.
The campaign focused on creating awareness about chronic pain and helping participants understand practical ways to prevent and manage common problems associated with the neck, back, and other areas of the body.
The interactive session provided an opportunity for participants to discuss their concerns, understand common causes of pain, and learn about the importance of timely consultation with a qualified Pain Specialist.
Understanding Chronic Pain
Chronic pain can affect a person’s daily activities, work, sleep, mobility, and overall quality of life. Unlike temporary pain that may improve with time, persistent pain may require proper medical evaluation.
One of the important messages of the Pain Awareness Campaign was that persistent pain should not simply be ignored. Identifying the possible cause and seeking professional guidance can be an important step towards appropriate pain management.
Preventing Neck and Back Pain
Neck and back pain are common concerns, particularly among people who spend long hours sitting, working at computers, or maintaining the same posture for extended periods.
During the awareness session, participants learned about the importance of maintaining proper posture and following healthier workplace habits.
Simple measures such as adjusting the workstation, maintaining a comfortable sitting position, taking regular movement breaks, and avoiding prolonged static postures can support better workplace health.
Importance of Workplace Ergonomics
Workplace ergonomics was another important topic covered during the campaign.
Ergonomics focuses on adapting the workplace and working environment to support comfort, safety, and efficiency. Good ergonomic practices can help employees become more aware of their posture and working habits.
Creating an ergonomically aware workplace can be especially valuable for employees who spend several hours at desks or computers every day.
Timely Consultation with a Pain Specialist
Another key focus of the Pain Awareness Campaign was the importance of timely consultation.
When pain persists, repeatedly returns, or begins to interfere with daily activities, professional evaluation can help determine the possible cause and appropriate management approach.
A Pain Specialist can assess an individual’s condition and recommend treatment based on their specific needs. Every patient is different, so pain management should be personalized rather than based on a one-size-fits-all approach.

Pain Is Treatable
A major message shared during the campaign was simple:
Pain is treatable, and surgery is not always the only option.
Modern pain management includes a range of approaches. Depending on the underlying condition, non-surgical treatment options may be considered following appropriate medical assessment.
The goal of pain management is not only to reduce pain but also to help individuals improve their function, mobility, and quality of life whenever possible.
Building a Pain-Aware Workplace
Awareness is an important part of creating a healthier workplace.
By educating employees about pain prevention, ergonomics, healthy habits, and the importance of timely medical consultation, organizations can encourage their teams to take a more informed approach to their health.
The enthusiastic participation of the officers and staff of ICAR-CIWA made the Pain Awareness Campaign a meaningful and engaging experience.
Our Commitment to Pain Awareness
We extend our heartfelt thanks to the ICAR-CIWA team for their enthusiastic participation and warm hospitality.
